U.S : The Senate votes to save net neutrality on Wednesday, but they still need #OneMoreVote !

The Senate is on the verge of overturning the FCC's decision to repeal net neutrality

Tell the Senate to save net neutrality today !

Dear friend.

The Senate will vote to save net neutrality this Wednesday, May 16th. After Trump’s FCC repealed the 2015 Obama-era rules protecting an open internet, Color of Change members like you mobilized like never before to convince 50 Senators to sign onto a Congressional Review Act (CRA) to overturn the FCC’s ruling and save net neutrality. Last week, the Senate used a discharge petition to go around Mitch McConnell and force a vote of the full Senate this week on saving net neutrality. This shows the power that we have when we band together and that when we fight back, we can win.

The big telecom companies are getting spooked and are doing everything in their power to block this CRA. We’re stronger than they are. This month, over 6,000 small business owners signed petitions and showed up to Senators offices urging them to sign onto the CRA.1The entire Democratic delegation and Republican Senator Susan Collins from Maine have all signed on, now we only need one more vote to ensure its passage..

If you’ve ever used the internet to tell the world that #BlackLivesMatter, remind people that 4 years later Flint still doesn’t have clean drinking water, or to say #MeToo, sign the petition today. 83% of American voters support net neutrality, the Senate needs to know we won’t back down.2

An open Internet has been a crucial place for artists, entrepreneurs, and activists to envision a new world and lead us into the future. Net neutrality allows free thinkers like these to create without boundaries, without fear that their work will be shutdown by an ISP - like Verizon or Comcast - that either wants more money or simply doesn’t agree with the content they are creating. With the open internet, everyone from amateur comedians on YouTube, to celebrities, to huge media companies play by the same rules.

Net neutrality is crucial to the careers of comedians, musicians, artists and other creators, but it also allows serious content to find an audience without the endorsement or approval of traditional media gatekeepers. For so many Black families impacted by police brutality or immigrant families whose loved ones are taken by ICE, the open Internet is the only way to get their stories out to the world. Without the open Internet, the world might never have learned what happened to Stephon Clark, Sandra Bland, Korryn Gaines, or Gynnya McMillen.

The open internet has empowered communities of color to organize for civil rights, racial justice, immigrant rights and call out misrepresentation in the media.  For trailblazing new artists, technologies, businesses, and activists to thrive, net neutrality is crucial. We must save net neutrality so that all our voices can be heard.
