I joined VOCAL-NY because when I came home from prison there were no opportunities for me to succeed. I couldn’t get a job, I barely had an education, and I didn't have a place to live. I was born into poverty and struggled with drug use and mental illness -- and instead of getting the support I needed -- I was criminalized and incarcerated. Now I’m a board member at VOCAL-NY where I organize for policies that are rooted in care and compassion -- because I know that’s what I needed, and it’s what every New Yorker deserves. Our next NYC Mayor has the potential to make massive progress on ending AIDS, the drug war, mass incarceration, and homelessness. That’s why VOCAL-NY is hosting “A Caring & Compassionate NYC” Mayoral Candidate Forum on Wednesday, March 17th from 5:30PM - 7:30PM. We’ll be asking the leading candidates for Mayor how they’ll tackle these intersecting issues and other critical questions facing our city. Confirmed candidates include : Shaun Donovan, Kathryn Garcia, Ray McGuire, Carlos Menchaca, Dianne Morales, Scott Stringer, Maya Wiley, and Andrew Yang. Unfortunately Eric Adams will no longer be able to attend. RSVP NOW to get the link to join our forum - we can’t wait to see you there! Sincerely, Jovada Senhouse. Board Member, VOCAL-NY |
