But to be honest, we think what’s even scarier than an apex predator are the bulldozers and intentional forest fires that do further damage to this already fragile habitat. The land which is home to the fewer than 400 remaining Sumatran tigers is being ransacked and sacrificed for the production of Conflict Palm Oil. And if we don’t act to stop deforestation at the source, it will continue to happen in critical forest habitats around the planet. The Leuser Ecosystem in Sumatra is unlike any place in the world. It’s the only place where tigers live alongside elephants, orangutans and rhinos. In order to celebrate International Tiger Day in the years to come, we need to make sure that the next generation of Sumatran tigers can continue to survive. On days like these, we learn and remind ourselves of the beauty, and irreplaceability, of the world we’re working to save. These are the stakes: our damaged planet will not heal so quickly if we don’t protect it now. The Javan and Balinese tigers have already gone extinct. They’re gone forever. Will you help keep Sumatran tigers from disappearing too? |
