AMAZON is trashing our planet; sign Environmental Action's petition !!

Friend,

The amount of Amazon’s plastic waste that makes its way into rivers, lakes and oceans is equivalent to dumping one delivery van of plastic into a waterway every 70 minutes.1

Plastics that we only use for a few seconds can take hundreds of years to decompose in the ocean — and this plastic pollution poses deadly threats to marine life. But potential customers like you have the power to convince Amazon to reduce its plastic footprint.

lexible plastic packaging is one of the deadliest forms of plastic pollution for marine life because it can crumple up in an animal’s digestive tract. If swallowed, this packaging can kill whales, dolphins, sea turtles and other animals.2

Amazon uses a massive amount of single-use plastic packaging, like flexible bubble mailers, air pillows and more. According to one study, Amazon’s plastic waste — in air pillows alone — could encircle the globe 500 times.3

Amazon claims it actually used 116 million pounds of plastic in 2019 — which is fewer than the report’s estimate, but it’s still a mind-boggling number that’s far too large.4

When companies like Amazon cause so much waste, the plastic problem can feel out of our control. But if the public speaks out against Amazon’s overuse of single-use plastics, the company will see that it is in its own self-interest to change its wasteful ways.

Amazon is able to do more to slash its plastic waste. Amazon India already announced it eliminated single-use plastics in its packaging at its fulfillment centers — but this isn’t nearly enough.5

Because Amazon is responsible for so much plastic waste worldwide, a decision to stop using single-use plastic packaging would have a huge impact on plastic pollution — and set an example for other companies to follow.
