U.S : She saved lives in this pandemic. Police killed her.

Dear friend,

Breonna Taylor was essential.

She adored her family. She dedicated her life to saving others. In the middle of this pandemic, she worked on the frontlines as an emergency room technician. On March 13,she was murdered in the middle of the night in her home in Louisville, KY by several police officers who were looking for the wrong person.1

Taylor was an award-winning EMT. She had plans to become a nurse. She actually served her community and saved lives, unlike the officers who killed her. Those responsible for taking this young Black woman's life should be held accountable, and Louisville authorities must make the changes needed to make sure this crime by police doesn't happen again.

There is a growing outcry in Louisville and around the country because of Taylor's murder--but more is needed to make sure authorities allow justice for another Black life unjustly and violently taken by police. That's why UltraViolet is joining forces with Taylor's community and several ally organizations to demand justice for Taylor and make sure Louisville officials are held accountable. Will you sign the petition ?

The three police officers who murdered Taylor still have their jobs.

Louisville Metropolitan Police Department officers Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove came into Taylor's apartment with no announcement and no warning. They were looking for a person who, it turned out, was already in LMPD's custody.2

Taylor's partner, Kenneth Walker, thought someone was burglarizing their home. He shot at the intruders--who, again, did not announce themselves--to defend Taylor and himself. The police officers responded by spraying the apartment with at least 20 rounds, eight of the bullets hitting Taylor while she was still in bed. To distract the public from LMPD's inexcusable mistakes, the department is charging Walker with attempted murder for legally defending his home.3

There is absolutely no excuse for Taylor's death. And time and time again, we've seen that law enforcement cannot be counted on to police themselves, unless mass outcry successfully pressures authorities to hold them accountable.

Thanks for speaking out !
