America has a long, storied history of brutality against Black Americans with the perpetrators never being held accountable - leaving those families of victims left behind without any justice.
For decades,
hundreds of families have been in a fight for justice for their family
member who was a victim of racial violence. It’s time for Congress to
pass the Victims of Racially Motivated Civil Rights era Murders and
Violence Act immediately and provide these families with closure,
restoration and healing.
The
VCMCRMVA would create a Survivors’ fund to provide much needed trauma
informed services, access to financial resources for families to hire
independent legal and investigative support to pursue justice, a seat at the table when memorials or lasting legacies for victims are being designed and built, and development funds to generate resources to support the efforts and initiatives of those families operating non-profit organizations or entities that are working in social change/justice and activism.
It’s time to pass legislation that compensates families of the victims of these horrendous crimes.
Yours in the struggle,
Marquese Averett, Daily Kos.
