On Friday, the Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade -- a monumental set back for our nation that will undoubtedly lead to death. VOCAL-NY as an organization stands with the cisgender women, non-binary, trans, and gender non-conforming folx fighting for the right to choose what they do with their bodies. We want to live in a world where people should always have the right, privacy, and dignity to make choices about their own bodies — whether it’s on abortion, drug use, sex work, or anything else. Abortion is healthcare and given the abominable disparities in our system and barriers to access for millions of people in the U.S., particularly in Black, Brown and poor communities, we will fight to maintain sovereignty over all of our bodies. This decision marks an end to a constitutional right that gave us autonomy over our own bodies, but we join millions of people living in America in fighting this decision in the streets and in statehouses. Take time to grieve, to reflect, and when the time is right, join us in fighting like hell against the erosion of our democracy. |
