Tell Congress and the President: We urge you to immediately expand the number of seats on the U.S. Supreme Court by at least four, and quickly appoint new justices to fill those seats. The future of our democracy and our basic rights depends on it !     SIGN THE    PETITION !           After the horrific mass murder of children at an elementary school in Texas, will our country finally take action to stop mass shootings and pass new gun control laws ?   Not if the Supreme Court can help it. In fact, the Supreme Court is about to issue a ruling that could throw out gun control laws across the country and make it easier for people to carry guns anywhere they want.   We need Congress and the President to act NOW to pass gun control legislation. Even if they do, the right-wing Supreme Court could overturn it. That's why we also need to take the court back from the extremists.   Congress has the power to add seats to the Supreme Court and fix a broken institution that has been captured by the NRA's allies. There's no time to lose. Will you add your name in this urgent moment ?       Sign the petition: Congress must add seats to the Supreme Court to stop the far right!       This is all happening because the far right has succeeded in its decades-long campaign to secure a supermajority on the Supreme Court. Six out of nine Supreme Court justices have ties to the Federalist Society, a cabal of right-wing jurists backed by corporate funders such as the Koch Brothers.   The NRA has also played a key role in helping get these extremists onto the Supreme Court. They've also worked to get the Court to agree to a warped interpretation of the Constitution. Beginning in 2008, Antonin Scalia and his right-wing colleagues on the Court have been issuing decision after decision rolling back gun control legislation.   Now the Supreme Court is about to issue its most radical gun decision yet. For the last 100 years New York has had strict licensing requirements for carrying a gun in public. But the far right brought a case against New York seeking to throw out those rules and other like them across America.   Just as the Supreme Court is poised to overturn decades of precedent to ban abortion, they're also about to overturn a century of precedent to make it easier for anyone to carry a gun. Even in New York, where people are still mourning the victims of the mass shooting in Buffalo.   Congress must pass legislation to control guns and stop mass shootings. They're also going to have to rebalance the Supreme Court now, before Republicans have the chance to secure a Congressional majority in the midterms. It's constitutional, it's happened before, and it's the only way to stop the radical right takeover of our courts and our country !       Sign the petition: Urge Congress to expand the Supreme Court and stop mass shootings!       Thanks, Team Progress.
