Laranco, the January 6th hearings are proving in real-time what many of us have known for well over a year : Donald Trump is a threat to our democracy. In case you missed the first night of hearings, this short video clip shows how Trump's exact words provoked armed right-wing militia groups to plan a coordinated attack on the Capitol.
And everything Donald Trump did after that awful day shows he continues to threaten our democracy.
In a written statement earlier this year, the former president said Vice President Mike Pence had the right to "change the outcome," but did not "exercise that power," and "could have overturned the election."
In other words, Trump admitted to the world that he attempted a coup on January 6 by having Pence overturn the will of voters. And if he runs for president in 2024, we can expect that he will try it once again.
The news media (at all levels, and across the political spectrum) must start treating Trump for what he is : a danger to our democracy, and a threat to our government. And political leaders must prepare for the worst-case scenario in 2024, if he does attempt to do this again. Our message to the news media and all government agencies : Donald Trump is a danger to our democracy, and a threat to our government. He just admitted that he had wanted Mike Pence to overturn the 2020 election.
Keep fighting, Paul Hogarth, Daily Kos. |
