Friend, Texas Governor Greg Abbot is a dangerous man.
You’ve seen his name in national headlines recently in the wake of the horrific school shooting in Uvalde, Texas - but Greg Abbott has caught national attention on a number of occasions for his callous decision-making that puts Texas communities and the rest of the country at risk. He has failed to permanently repair Texas' electrical grid after a devastating winter storm in 2021 that killed over 700 people. His lack of response to COVID-19 left thousands in Texas and surrounding states vulnerable to infection. He also recently came under investigation by the Department of Treasury for misusing federal COVID-19 tax dollars to fund his failing state immigration plan, Operation Lone Star.
And despite Abbott’s attempt to shift the blame on literally anyone other than himself for the tragedy that occurred at Robb Elementary, Governor Greg Abbott signed into law legislation that made it possible for anyone in the state of Texas to own a firearm without a license or training.
Governor Greg Abbott’s decisions cost lives.
Last month, the parents of a Uvalde school shooting victim, Alexandria "Lexi" Aniyah Rubio, declined a request for a meeting by Abbott. They said that she didn't even like him.
Lexi dreamed of becoming a lawyer, and her parents dreamed of the day they would be able to watch her walk across the aisle at graduation. Those dreams were ripped from them.
Our government allowed that to happen. Greg Abbott allowed that to happen.
Lexi’s mother spoke to the New York Times about it. “We live in this really small town in this red state, and everyone keeps telling us, you know, that it's not the time to be political, but it is — it is," She added, "Don't let this happen to anybody else." Keep fighting, Jayleen Alvarado, Daily Kos.
