When the forces bent on destroying the Amazon and violating Indigenous rights
move forward, they don’t slow down. For years, we witnessed this under
the horrific Bolsonaro regime. Now that he's out of power, we cannot afford to let up even a little bit in the wake of historic victories for Indigenous land rights.
Last week we shared the fantastic news that Brazil’s new president Lula da Silva announced that he will follow through on his campaign promise to "not leave a single Indigenous territory unprotected." This formal recognition and titling of Indigenous lands, or "demarcation," was the news our movement needed to take the next step towards permanent protection of the Amazon.

The rainforest is still at its tipping point, but now we feel we can push it back "into the green" if we continue to work together. It’s been scientifically proven that advancing the rights of Indigenous people and forest communities is the best way to end deforestation and protect the Amazon.
Amazon Watch has 26 years of experience working directly with Indigenous partners
across the region. After the combined assaults of unprecedented fires,
Bolsonaro's hostile regime, and COVID-19, we now have an opportunity to
move the needle back toward a positive future with a healthy, thriving Amazon.
Will you make a monthly commitment today to help us strengthen our campaigns and attain the next victory ?
Supporting those on the front lines of this movement is one of the best ways to declare your dedication to climate justice. Thank you for helping us to keep up the work !
For the Amazon and a healthy future,
Leila Salazar-López
Executive Director.
