Saturday, May 20 @ 11 AM: THE RENT IS TOO DAMN HIGH MARCH : The state passed a budget this year with no plan to address soaring rents and record homelessness. We are going to march with thousands of New Yorkers and demand they pass a plan before June.

Week in Review

This week VOCAL-NY held a vigil of Jordan Neely at City Hall. Allies and community members joined together to mourn the loss of Jordan Neely and demand Justice for Jordan. Housing is healthcare !

VOCAL-NY also continued to show up for Good Cause Eviction and HAVP in Albany for a day of action.

Are You Eligible for the NYC Bail Settlement ?

A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit that claims the City of New York violated the law when it delayed releasing people after their bail was paid. This means that anyone who was released on bail (whether cash bail, bail bond, partially secured bond, or any form of payment the New York Department of Corrections accepts for payment of bail) from Rikers or any NYC jail between October 4, 2014 and October 21, 2022 may be entitled to $3,500 or more. In order to receive payment, eligible individuals must submit a simple claim before June 6, 2023.
