Wednesday, May 3 @ 6:00 PM: Phone Banking for #CareNotCuts : Join us and The People's Plan coalition for an evening of phone banking. We'll be calling constituents in local districts and asking them to call their councilmember to hold the line against the Mayor who continues to threaten cuts to essential services that help our communities in New York on a daily basis : housing, healthcare, mental health care, childcare and schools— all while our Mayor is pushing to dump more money into wasteful and harmful entities like the NYPD and DOC.

Week in Review

This week VOCAL-NY continued to stand in support of Kawaski Trawick and demand the firing of the officers who killed him. VOCAL-NY joined allies to rally against CitiBank for Climate Justice on Monday. VOCAL-NY went up to Albany Tuesday for End Qualified Immunity Advocacy Day to demand safety and accountability.

Are You Eligible for the NYC Bail Settlement ?

A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit that claims the City of New York violated the law when it delayed releasing people after their bail was paid. This means that anyone who was released on bail (whether cash bail, bail bond, partially secured bond, or any form of payment the New York Department of Corrections accepts for payment of bail) from Rikers or any NYC jail between October 4, 2014 and October 21, 2022 may be entitled to $3,500 or more. In order to receive payment, eligible individuals must submit a simple claim before June 6, 2023.
