Friend, the conversation on climate change has reached the global stage. As it should – rising temperatures & catastrophic disasters will affect communities across the world, and a proper response to this crisis will take an effort from all of us. But that escalation doesn’t come without some downsides. On that grand scale, often, the voices of the communities most affected by climate change are drowned out. The complexity of people’s lives and stories can often be lost in the massive scale of statistics. It doesn’t have to be that way. An approach towards solving the climate crisis is incomplete without centering the voices of the frontline communities who will suffer first, and who will suffer the most. At Hip Hop Caucus, we’re doing our part to center those voices and ensure that the solutions they’ve identified aren’t ignored by folks in power. From members of our team visiting these communities directly to the creation of powerful, emotional documentaries like the Swollen series and Freshwater, we are lifting up the stories that show the climate crisis is already upon us.
