U.S (UltraViolet) : Protect people seeking out-of-state abortion care; please, SIGN !

 

 

 

Dear friend,

 

Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, 22 states have enacted abortion bans, forcing people to travel hundreds of miles for abortion care.

But extreme anti-abortion politicians aren’t satisfied. They are trying to stop people from traveling outside their state to get an abortion by prosecuting doctors and anyone else who helps a pregnant person get the care they need.

The good news is that elected leaders in states that support abortion rights have begun passing shield laws that protect abortion providers and others who help people from out-of-state access abortion care. Now we're calling on other states to follow their lead.

Since the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, people have not stopped seeking abortion care. They’ve simply been forced to travel or make other extraordinary efforts. In addition, abortion funds and other nonprofits have stepped in to help those seeking care.

Anti-abortion politicians want to shut all that down and trap people in states where abortion is banned.

The Arkansas attorney general is threatening to sue anyone who aids travel outside the state for an abortion.¹ Texas towns are moving to set up highway checkpoints to stop so-called “abortion trafficking.”² The list goes on.

Now, more than ever, we need state leaders who support abortion rights to do everything they can to help those who must travel to exercise bodily autonomy. That’s why we’re urging more states to enact shield laws to protect patient privacy, stop any state agency from cooperating with anti-abortion states, shield abortion providers from prosecution, and more.

Seven states--California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York--have enacted shield laws since last summer.³ It’s time for elected officials in other states to follow their lead.
