Friend - Arlette needs your help.
CASA member Arlette was not yet fifteen years old when Trump canceled DACA the first time. She is now eighteen and one of approximately 66,000 immigrant teenagers who had been locked out of DACA until a federal judge ordered the Trump administration to fully reinstate the initiative in December 2020. But she is still waiting. Arlette is stuck in limbo, waiting for her DACA application to be approved.
And Arlette is not the only one needlessly suffering because of inaction from USCIS, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. USCIS has major backlogs in its system and is at times failing to process DACA renewal applications on time, resulting in DACA recipients (sometimes known as Dreamers) losing their protections and jobs. CASA, one of the largest member-led immigrant advocacy organizations in the mid-Atlantic, is fighting for members like Arlette who cannot keep waiting for the justice they deserve. DACA recipients have deep ties in the U.S. and have contributed to the fabric of our community in every field and space imaginable. Those who qualify for DACA but have not had their applications processed lead similar lives. Approximately 202,500 DACA recipients work on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic in essential jobs, keeping the country fed, educated, and cared for. It's time our country does what is right and cares for them. Thank you for your continued support.
In Solidarity,
Gustavo Torres, Executive Director CASA.
