This is alarming. The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change just released its latest report. If you’ve seen the report and are fired up to act, will you add your name to tell Congress to pass an ambitious infrastructure and recovery plan that prioritizes curbing the climate crisis? In its report, the IPCC found that our reliance on fossil fuels has heated the planet by about 2 degrees Fahrenheit.1 And we’re already seeing the impacts of that warming : heat waves, droughts, flooding, hurricanes, sea levels rising, and weather whiplash.2 But this is only the beginning. We’re already on track to reach 2.7 degrees of warming within the next two decades, which will have disastrous outcomes : nearly 1 billion people will suffer through more frequent life-threatening heat waves. Hundreds of millions of people will face water scarcity. Plant and animal species will go extinct.3 This report is dire — but inaction is not an option. The IPCC concluded that the only way we can stop further warming is to end greenhouse gas emissions — and the longer we take to do that, the hotter the planet will become.4 So we need to act now. Right now, Congress is debating a major infrastructure and recovery package and it must offer solutions to address the current climate crisis. Will you add your name right now and tell Congress to pass an ambitious infrastructure and recovery bill that funds climate solutionsnow? This might be our movement’s last chance to get Congress to curb climate change. If we fall short then we might not be able to take action again on this scalefor a generation or longer — and by then it might be too late to avoid the worst outcomes of climate change. So we can’t wait. We can’t delay. This is our moment — maybe our onlymoment before it’s too late. We could win massive investments in climate solutions, care, jobs, and justice — exactly what we need to do to curb future warming. Or we could wind up with a rapidly warming planet and an incredibly dire future. Every single one of our Congressional representatives and senators need to hear from us now. Please add your name and tell Congress that we need a major infrastructure and recovery package that curbs the climate crisis. Our movement can get this done, but only if we come together and take action. Team Green New Deal Network.
