Friend — While our communities have been devastated by the pandemic, immigrant workers face further threats by employers if they speak out about unpaid wages, abuse or unsafe working conditions. The looming threat of deportation results in rampant abuse against workers, including day laborers, domestic workers, street vendors, factory and delivery workers, and many more. We know all labor is essential. We also know that President Biden and Labor Secretary Walsh can take immediate action to begin to repair the harms committed against immigrant working families. The National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) is sounding the alarm about this crisis facing undocumented workers nationwide and demanding the protections necessary so that workers can denounce and confront the myriad of abuses and unsafe conditions they face across the US. Whistleblower protections would mean that workers can speak out when an employer steals their wages when a supervisor commits sexual harassment, or when co-workers are getting sick and dying from a deadly pandemic. It means protecting frontline workers that have continued to work throughout the pandemic. In Solidarity, National Day Laborer Organizing Network team. National Day Laborer Organizing Network.
