Friend,
If the Biden administration follows through with the land transfer of
sacred, Indigenous land to a notoriously disastrous UK-Australian
mining company, it will be “a serious breach of trust not
only with the San Carlos Apache Tribe but with all Native American
communities across the country,” according to San Carlos Apache Tribal Chairman Terry Rambler.
That’s
why we’re joining with allies across the country and demanding Sec. of
Agriculture Tom Vilsack withhold final approval of this project and
protect Oak Flat for generations to come.
TAKE ACTION
Since time eternal, The San Carlos Apache have held ceremonies at Oak
Flat -- cleansing themselves in the perennial springs, collecting
sacred foods, praying, and connecting with the Creator. These ceremonies
are still being held today by the Tribe and the area should be
protected.
The transfer of this Native land to Rio Tinto Resolution
Copper Mining would destroy the entire area, deplete and poison already
limited water supplies, and forever destroy the culture and religion of
the San Carlos Apache people -- all for corporate greed to export copper
to other countries.
It would also go directly against promises to honor treaty
obligations through Nation-to-Nation relationships and to meaningfully
consultation with Tribes.
Add
your name to demand Sec. of Agriculture Tom Vilsack withhold final
approval of this devastating copper mining operation on Native land now.
Thank you,
Tremayne Nez
Policy Director.
