Under Donald Trump’s leadership, armed white supremacists descended onto American cities, flying Trump flags and carrying weapons of war―with the President’s tacit encouragement. On January 6th, 2020, they tried to overthrow our country. How did we get here ? Over the past 50 years, the National Rifle Association has transformed from a modest affinity group into a political powerhouse aimed at tearing down any protections Americans could possibly expect from firearms. In the process, NRA leadership worked to siphon off hundreds of millions of dollars to enrich themselves, in defiance of their tax status. NRA leadership, like President Wayne LaPierre, have been lining their pockets with blood money for far too long. The NRA has used mass shootings as advertising to their members, creating an environment where gun violence is in their financial interest. Along the way, they’ve propped up lawmakers and candidates who block the common sense gun reforms that are overwhelmingly popular and would save lives. Our tax code benefits non-profits because they are supposed to elevate social good. The NRA doesn’t educate, and it doesn’t improve lives. It spreads poison through our culture and leaves a trail of bodies in its wake. Tell the IRS: Revoke the NRA’s tax status!
