Friend,
Last week we sent thousands of messages to the Biden administration and the USDA urging them to protect the sacred Indigenous site known as Oak Flat.
Now, we’re broadening the political pressure on Congress. Rep. Raúl Grijalva recently introduced the Save Oak Flat from Foreign Mining Act, which would permanently protect the area.
San Carlos Apache Tribe Chairman Terry Rambler said that “obliterating Oak Flat for a copper mine will be a grave human rights violation against Indigenous people and an environmental catastrophe.”
We need to quickly pass the law in order to protect this sacred place and defend our constitutional right to practice our beliefs.
Hawwih (“thank you” in Caddo) for continuing to defend democratic rights,
Judith Le Blanc (Caddo)
Executive Director.
