Friend,
Our mission at Courier Newsroom is to combat disinformation and misinformation at the source. One of the worst sources of bad information ? Donald Trump. His social media accounts have been the origin of some of the worst content online, with his supporters eagerly believing and spreading his false claims. As reported by NBC News, former President Donald Trump has been indicted on about 30 document fraud-related charges in New York City, connected to hush money he allegedly paid to cover up affairs ahead of the 2016 election. While the indictment unfolds, Trump has continued to escalate his rhetoric on his Truth Social site, attempting to rally his supporters and claiming the prosecution is a political witch hunt. In light of these events, it is crucial to hold social media platforms responsible for the content they allow to spread. After years of using these platforms to spread disinformation, incite violence, and ultimately, ignite a deadly insurrection ahead of January 6, 2021 — Trump’s ban from mainstream social media platforms was a necessary step to protecting our democracy. Since then, we’ve learned more about Trump’s role in the insurrection and the influence of his social media posts, thanks to the January 6th Report. The average person wouldn’t be allowed back on a platform after doing any of the things Trump did on social media — let alone all of them. Independent reports have found a major rise in hate, discrimination, and political violence following Trump’s tweets. Please, take a moment to sign our petition to keep Trump off of Facebook and Twitter. This only takes 30 seconds and will make a serious impact on our work to combat disinformation. Thank you,
Everyone at COURIER. |
